Overview
Companies across the UK need passionate and talented individuals to work with them. This programme provides the key steps needed to gain an entry-level position within the industry. Through the short programme, the participants met and learned from the professionals, gained experience and new skills. Many built a robust portfolio and CV to position themselves as a candidate for entry-level Producer, Quality Assurance and Marketing positions, with the opportunity to secure a work placement at the end of the programme through the Kickstart scheme.
The programme ran between October - November 2021 and had 16 participants who attended 14 sessions over 6 weeks.
The course was created around the context of the growth of the games and eSports industry, to address staff shortage and low cross-indicator diversity in the games industry. In addition to this, the original timings of the course were changed to reflect the short deadlines of the UK government Kickstart scheme to allow all eligible participants to apply for Kickstart positions by the original deadline of December 17th 2021.Companies across the UK need passionate and talented individuals to work with them. Situated right in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the Good Growth hub offers programmes, services and a physical space that are part of a plan to make sure businesses are tapping into local talent.
Game Anglia
Game Anglia is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company that helps the young people and independent game developers mainly in the Eastern part of England get the connections, skills and experience needed to succeed in the UK-wide and international game development industry.
Into Games
Into Games was launched in 2019 to connect the dots between education and industry, making a career in the video games sector more accessible to young people in the UK, no matter their background.
Staffordshire University
Staffordshire University in London are continually developing our courses to be relevant to the working world, and empowering our students to secure their future career. Staffordshire University London, which is less than two years old, is already home to 135 students studying on a range of courses including Esports, Computer Science, Concept Art for Games and Film, Computer Games Design and Cyber Security.
Sports Interactive
Sports Interactive is the world’s leading developer of sports management simulation based at HereEast, with over 170 employees, and is the winner of the Best Places to Work 2021 Award.
Programme
The programme ran 14 sessions over 6 weeks and was a mix of in-person events throughout the HereEast Campus and the Good Growth Hub.
Sessions were split across 4 “paths”:
General Games Industry knowledge
Producer training
QA and Office Management training
Marketing knowledge
And additionally saw the participants create 2 games: 1 digital and 1 non-digital game
